I am a Teacher Librarian in a senior secondary college in Tasmania. I have been in the position for the last 3 years and worked as a teacher in the vocational education area for 8 years before that. I have also worked as a Library Technician for 6 years in another senior secondary college. It has been an interesting journey from my first experience as a helper in my children’s school library, to library technician, librarian, teacher and now as a teacher librarian in a college.

Interspersed with all this has been visits to Fiji, where I have worked on Rotary projects putting in school libraries and computer labs. As a team, we have replaced flood damaged libraries, computer labs, resurrected school staff rooms and had rewarding times with local people and their beautiful food and country.

I love working with teenagers, or should I say, young adults. It’s interesting to see them mature from a typical teenager (what is typical) to mature young adults going out into the world to learn at a university, TAFE or getting their first job.

Now I am back at Uni, doing more study, to gain more skills in this very interesting vocation.
